Training Camp Report: Roy Finch injured as the starters take the night off, and the backups struggle

The Patriots held practice tonight in their stadium in front of 22,886 fans. Aside from the change of scenery, and huge increase in attendance, there wasn't much to be excited about going on tonight. Ned Brady and I were live on the scene watching from the press box. Here's out observations.

The starters got a rest, as Brady and company did not participate in group activities. This paved the way for Jimmy Garoppollo and Ryan Mallet to earn more reps, but neither really delivered. In fact, Garroppolo only completed one pass.

There was also one injury. Roy Finch caught a screen pass down the left side and made a nice move to get away from linebacker Steve Beauharnais. Beauharnais continued to pursue down the left sideline, pushing Finch out of bounds and into a group of players on the sideline. Both Finch and safety Kannoris Davis were both on the ground for awhile.

Davis got up first, and Finch soon followed. However, he was having trouble putting weight on his leg and went to the lockerroom. Thanksfully, reports indicate it was nothing serious.

Brady spent most of practice chucking it up on the sidelines with Rodney Harrison and the Patriots Hall of Famers. Belichick revealed afterwards that the players would have tomorrow off, so he must've felt confident in how the team performed this week.

Other notes:

Ryan Wendell fumbled a snap once, not a great mark for a man in the middle of a center competition. Thankfully for him, rookie Bryan Stork was still sidelined today as he sits out due to injury.

Brian Tyms continues to show up as making plays on the JV squad. He had another nice haul on a throw from Mallet in 1 on 1s today.
