Training Camp Report: Ryan Mallett missing and offensive line depth chart starts to take shape

The Patriots had a light practice today as they prepare to take on the Eagles in joint practices on Tuesday and Wednesday. Still, there were some significant takeaways from today's session.

First and foremost, quarterback Ryan Mallet was absent. No reason was given for this and so we are left to assume it has to do with an awkward slide he had during last Thursday's preseason game.

In other injury related news, defensive linemen Sealver Siliga and Chris Jones also missed the session today, which was expected. Siliga injured his hand in last Wednesday's joint practice and Jones suffered an ankle injury in the game.

Brandon Bolden and Alfonzo Dennard did return though, on a positive note. Rookie Jemea Thomas also returned, which is good for him since he has been injured through all of camp.

Rookie Bryan Stork, expected to push Ryan Wendell at the center spot, also practiced today. This is significant since he has been nursing an injury for most of camp. Wendell was working late in the preseason game against Washington, which may not speak well for his roster security.

Another shift on the offensive line, perhaps tied directly to the preseason game was Nate Solder's demotion of sorts.

Solder struggled with Brian Orakpo last week and this could be a message the coaching staff is sending to him to improve, or lose his position as the protector of Brady's blind side. In practice today, he already lost that to Sebastian Vollmer.
