Arrowhead Stadium sets a world record for decibel level

Associated Press:
Arrowhead Stadium is once again the loudest stadium in the NFL. This time, it's official.

The Kansas City Chiefs fans broke the world record for an outdoor sports stadium in their 24-7 win over Oakland on Sunday, December 15, 2013 when they reached 137.5 decibels in the closing minutes.

An official from Guinness World Records told The Associated Press that Chiefs fans broke the record of 136.6 set by Seahawks fans during a game against San Francisco on September 15, 2013. To put that in perspective, a jet engine at 100 feet is about 140 decibels.

Leaving the noise level of the public library, which was Gillette Stadium against the Oakland Raiders last Sunday, New England travels to America's heartland for a matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs. it is a tough environment to play in with false starts and delay of game penalties. The Patriots can ill afford any further setbacks while its offensive line works to protect their most precious commodity, QB Tom Brady. Seattle fans take credit for their sound power, calling themselves "the 12th man." Kansas City brings a "13."

Joel Thorman, SBNation:
"It is a tough place to play," Belichick said. "We haven't played in Arrowhead since they've re-done it so I'm not sure exactly what that brings. There's great energy out there. The fans are fanatical. There's a lot of crowd noise. I'm sure it will be as loud as it possibly can be on Monday night when we have the ball or are kicking it.

We know of one QB who played for current Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who wilted in the noise and pressure of a big game. That would be former Philadelphia Eagles QB, Donovan McNabb who self destructed in the 4th quarter of Super Bowl XXXIX against the New England Patriots. Donovan's clock management or lack thereof, affected the Eagles chance for a comeback. Donovan's ears stopped ringing when Patriots safety, Rodney Harrison intercepted his desperation third down pass.

We witnessed some confusion this past Sunday against Oakland at the two minute warning before halftime. QB Tom Brady appeared to be surprised that the clock had run down the whistle. This was in the quiet of his home stadium. He will not be afforded this luxury against the Guinness Book of Record breakers on Monday night. The fans of the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium do not take prisoners. Their support group is shooting for 140 decibels on Monday night.
