Belichick quick hits on Peyton, Bears

Unless you live under a rock, you know already that Peyton Manning is now officially the king of passing touchdowns after breaking Brett Favre's record last night. From Magic Johnson to Trent Dilfer to Gatorade, Peyton has been getting positive feedback everywhere. Fellow football mastermind Bill Belichick reiterated some of that praise today:
"For a career it's an unbelievable amount of consistent production," Belichick said. "He'd probably be waiting longer to pass that record if he hadn't gone against me so many times. He certainly threw a lot of them against defenses that I had. His durability, his longevity, his production and that's why it is what it is, why that record is what it is. [Brett] Favre did it for a long time and on a very consistent level and Peyton has done the same thing even a little more. It's a phenomenal accomplishment."

Moving on from the top story of the day though, the Patriots are looking forward to their match-up against the stumbling Chicago Bears. Though Chicago may be in a state of disarray, with Brandon Marshall attempting to step up at the apparent leader, Belichick and the Pats are never ones to underestimate their opponents. BB went on to explain that the Bears, specifically their wide receiver core, are loaded with weapons:
"Between Jeffery, Marshall, [Josh] Morgan and you have to put Bennett in there too, he's really a big receiver at the tight end position and very athletic," Belichick said. "No matter where you are on those guys, they are open because they have such range. A good quarterback could put the ball where the defender is. The quarterback could put the ball somewhere where they could get it and the defender could be just a little too far away from it. We are going to have to do a good job of matching up to the size of the receivers and the size of the tight end and the skill of the quarterback to get them the ball. It's going to be very challenging."

Belichick also threw in some of his thoughts on head coach Marc Trestman and his experience with the passing offense. Trestman spent some time in Cleveland just prior to Belichick's arrival with the Browns. The pass-oriented West Coast offense that Trestman's Bears are committed to will be a huge test for the Patriots passing defense that now has the one-two punch that we've all been waiting for in Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner.
