Bill Belichick was "happy" for Chris Jones after blocked field goal

What a difference a year makes.

Last year Nick Folk missed a 56 yard attempt in overtime that would have given the Jets the win over the Patriots. But a 15 yard penalty on Chris Jones for pushing a teammate into the line gave the Jets new life and Folk didn't miss from 39 yards out.

Fast forward to last night. Once again the game was coming down to a last second Nick Folk field goal. This time from 58 yards away. Only this time there was no penalty, but redemtpion for Chris Jones as he blocked the field goal and sealed the win for the Patriots.

After the game, coach Bill Belichick was happy for the 2nd year player.

CSNNE

Really happy for Chris at the end," said Belichick. "After what happened last year I think it was so fitting that he make that play.

Chris Jones on how the play unfolded.

I was just trying to get as deep in the pocket as I could to get up and get my hands on it," Jones explained. "God willing, I blocked it. (Folk) was 50-plus yards away so I knew it was going to be a line drive. I think it was just coming down to will at the end. We just had to see who could get the most push in the front and ended up getting it. We tried to rush them and get middle penetration. Obviously, you have to throw your all-out block on when you're in that situation and have the possibility of winning the game so we have to do all we can to block the kick.

You just couldn't ask for a better way for this to turn out. After losing last year on a penalty that had never been called before, it stung. And for that same scenario to play out almost exactly the next season, only to have the outcome be in your favor this time, well it just doesn't get much sweeter than that.
