Golden Tate vents about Schwartz: "That's a total douche move"

Last weekend the Bills stunned the Lions with a last minute field goal to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Naturally the Bills players began to celebrate, but then they did something fans don't see that often in the NFL. Several Bills players carried their defensive coordinator off the field. That coordinator was former Lions coach Jim Schwartz.

One Lions player in particular was a tad upset over the incident. When asked about Schwartz being carried off Golden Tate said:

I didn't like it at all. If I knew I wasn't gonna get fined, I would have snatched him right down off the shoulders and threw him on the ground, personally -- but, you know, obviously, I couldn't do that. But, you know, if that's what they feel like that was the right thing to do, then so be it. But I just thought it was a bit disrespectful to come on someone's home field, because you have a past with them and kind of do that. So, you know, it is what it is. Hopefully he feels better for doing it... And one thing I heard that -- I don't know how true it is -- but I heard it was planned... 'We'll do this if we win.' That's a total douche move.'

The interesting accusation is that Tate throws out is Schwartz planning the stunt.

Did Tate go a little far in his criticism? Maybe a little bit with the 'throwing Schwartz to the ground' comment. But whether the celebration was planned or not fundamentally changes whether I agree with Tate's condemnation.

If Schwartz did plan the celebration I despise what he did. What kind of narcissistic and despicable person would ask other people to carry them on their shoulders after a football game? Not only that, but he lead a defense that was going up against an offense without their best player! That would be like a defensive coordinator celebrating a victory against the Broncos if Peyton Manning left with an injury. I'm sure most defenses in the NFL could compete against the Lions minus Calvin Johnson.

I would like to believe Schwartz was spontaneously carried off the field. The Buffalo defense has been great so far this season, ranking 8th in yards per game and 9th in points allowed (tied with Houston). So perhaps the Buffalo players attribute their success to Schwartz's leadership as the defensive coordinator.
