Jeremy Gallon tried out for the Packers; now playing in the FXFL with other former Pats

The Green Bay Packers recently took a look at wideout Jeremy Gallon, who the Patriots selected with the 244th overall pick in the 2014 draft. Gallon was a standout at Michigan, where he played from 2010-2013. During that span, the undersized Gallon (5'8",185 lbs) accumulated 173 receptions for 2,704 yards and 17 touchdowns.

After being drafted by the Patriots, Gallon spent the majority of training camp sidelined with an undisclosed ailment. When he finally got on the field for the team's final two preseason games, his performance was underwhelming. With a log-jam at the position, it did not come as a huge surprise when he was released by the team on August 31st. The Packers were apparently interested enough to bring him in for a look, but he remains unsigned by an NFL team.

Gallon is currently slated to play for the Brooklyn Bolts of the FXFL, a developmental minor league football league intended to be a platform for players looking to rejoin the NFL ranks. The league opens its inaugural season tonight.

Gallon is not the only former Patriots who will be playing in the league. According to NEPatriotsDraft.com, a group of players with New England ties will be taking to the FXFL stage in the coming weeks:

- OL Jon Halapio (Boston Brawlers)
- WR Wilson Van Hooser (Boston Brawlers)
- OL RJ Mattes (Boston Brawlers)
- TE Brandon Ford (Boston Brawlers)
- TE Kyle Auffray (Brooklyn Bolts)
- CB Jordan Love (Brooklyn Bolts)
- DL Travis Chappelear (Omaha Mammoths)

Halapio is perhaps the most notable name on this list, along with Gallon, as he was also selected in the 2014 draft as a 6th round pick out of Florida. He must have struggled significantly in camp, as it would seem anyone with potential on the offensive line would have stuck given the lack of depth in that area so far this season.

It will be interesting to see if the FXFL can become a viable platform for player development, and whether or not any of these former Patriots will be able to find their way back into the NFL.
