Jets defensive front gives them hope

Thursday seems likely to be a bleak night for Jets fans. They don't seem to have a quarterback, their original starting corners are all gone, they have only one win, and they now travel north to New England to face a Patriots team that has been on fire the past two weeks. They are currently 7.5 point underdogs in their upcoming match up.
So what is left for Jets fans to cling on to hope for victory? The answer is four very talented men up front.
Sheldon Richardson, Muhammad Wilkerson, Quinten Coples, and Damon Harrison have been the silver lining in an otherwise dismal season for gang green. Because of these guys the Jets rank 8th in rushing yards allowed per game average. They also tie for 7th in the league for sacks accumulating 15 so far this season.
What really would help the Jets would be to get Richardson back on the offensive side of the ball. Last year Rex Ryan threw Richardson into the offense in goal line situations and gave him the ball. While sparking flashbacks of the 85' Bears using the Fridge to pound the ball into the end zone the tactic proved effective as Richardson accumulated 2 touchdowns on 4 attempts.
But the Patriots can just throw the ball like every other team has done against the Jets, right? Quarterbacks who have faced the Jets so far this season have averaged a passer rating of 109.2, that ranks 3rd worst in the league just behind Tampa Bay and Jacksonville. However it is likely to rain on Thursday which could make passing difficult even with the Patriots practicing with slick footballs. Such weather could force both teams to run the ball more which favors the Jets when you consider their run defense and the Patriots starting running back Ridley out for the year.
