In a strength versus strength battle the Patriots offense comes out on top

In physics its called the "Irresistible force paradox". That's when an unstoppable force meets an unmovable object. They both cannot exist at the exact same time thus creating the paradox.

Today we saw the NFL's version of the Irresistible force paradox when the number one ranked Lions defense came to town to face the high flying offense of the Patriots.

The Patriots, on a six game win streak in which they have scored 40 plus points in each of those six games, become the unstoppable force. While the Lions defense who have been allowing 15.6 points per game with a season high of just 24 points represent the unmovable object. Which would give first? Both streaks could not continue thus creating our own paradox.

Unfortunately for the Lions, the unstoppable force that is the Patriots offense was able to move the unmovable object. And they did it with ease throughout the first half. While the Lions jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, the Patriots were able to respond with several big plays. Tim Wright had two wide open touchdown catches. Newly resigned Legarrette Blount added a second quarter touchdown run. Even Danny Amendola got into the mix as he took a kickoff 81 yards to set up the Patriots with a very short field.

They even had a chance to get into the 2 minute offense and they did not disappoint. After a penalty negated a long 1st down gain by Julian Edelman the Patriots were able to drive 40 yards in just :35 seconds to set up a 35 yard Stephen Gostkowski field goal.

In just one half of play, the Patriots had already matched the season high in points that the Lions had allowed.

The Lions defense slowed the Patriots offense in the second half, only allowing 10 points. But the damage had already been done. The Patriots had their own hard to move object as the defense limited the Lions offense to just field goals the entire game.

As the old saying in football goes, defense wins championships but in physics its an object that is in motion stays in motion. After watching this Patriots offense turn into an unstoppable force over these last seven games, I would have to give the edge to the law of physics. As its starting to look more and more like there isn't an unstoppable force in the NFL that is capable of stopping these Patriots.
