Mark Sanchez was dominant last night and Jets fans are pissed
Four words I never thought I would say in my life: Mark Sanchez was incredible.
But he was. Stepping in for the injured Nick Foles, Sanchez led the Eagles to a 45-21 rout of the discombobulated Carolina Panthers. The former Jets quarterback completed 20 of 37 passes for 332 and two touchdowns. He averaged 9 yards per completed pass and posted a total QB rating of 102.5 in his first start since December 2012.
There was no stopping him from beginning to end. He was accurate, quick, smart with the football, and made just about every throw look seamless. Sanchez has found a system that works for him and almost perfectly hides his flaws. Bravo, Chip Kelly. Bravo.
Kelly has surrounded Sanchez with weapons in Philadelphia that are better than anything he ever had in New York by leaps and bounds. Sanchez had a few good years of Santonio Holmes, but that quickly went south.
In Philadelphia, he has a legitimate deep threat in Jeremy Maclin, an emerging stud in rookie receiver Jordan Matthews, the best backfield in the NFL with LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles, and an offensive line that, at least for one game, literally gave him all night to get rid of the football. Kelly, like Bill Belichick, also employs a two-tight end system, with Zach Ertz as the primary target. Ertz is the Eagles version of Rob Gronkowski. He's big, tough to bring down and can make plays in critical moments.
Sanchez's performance last night was one that wasn't seen much during his time with the Jets. It also further illustrates a consensus that Rex Ryan cannot develop a quarterback and does not have a system where a quarterback can truly grow.
Speaking to The New York Daily News after the game, Sanchez said the following, per Manish Mehta:
It took a while for Sanchez to get back into the spotlight, and he said that he is thankful for everything he has been through.
As cliche as this sounds, Sanchez sounded like a man on a mission. He made many Eagles fans forget about Nick Foles, who has struggled at times this season. There is no reason not to believe he will continue to thrive in Philadelphia.
The best part about all of this, though? Some Jets fans are pissed and it's great. Here are a few comments from Daily News readers.
I could read these all day.
As Patriots fans, should we be happy that Mark Sanchez has seemingly revived his career with the Eagles? Tweet me your thoughts - @JesseGaunce

“It was an incredible feeling,” Sanchez told the Daily News in the quiet of the Eagles locker room. “It’s been too long.”

“When you take a step back, you appreciate it so much,” Sanchez said. “You miss it so much. I just kept telling myself when I was out that if I get a chance to get back out there, I don’t ever want to get out again until I retire.”

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I give up.
Hex Ryan is a much better QB guru than Chip Kelly. Hex knows offense. Hex knows how to put up points. Hex knows how to cultivate explosive talent. And then he awoke from his hashish-fueled dream.
The Jets are buffoons.
Not to worry Jet fans......remember, this is The Sanchize. On his career, it goes like this: 2.5 quarters of pretty good football, 1 quarter of pure "3 and outs", and 1/2 quarter of "stake thru the heart" turnover machine.
It was his coming out party last night on national tv, with a new team and lots of talent. The real Sanchize hasn't left the field though. He WILL be back.
interesting how ny writers insist that Sanchez' failures with the Jets was significantly due to a lack of talent at the skill positions can anyone name Tom Brady's receivers from his 3 SB winning seaasons? Sanchez failed in NY because of the coaching, or lack there of.
