Stevan Ridley underwent knee surgery yesterday

Jonas Gray's historic performance Sunday in Indianapolis has many fans forgetting about the team's former lead back, Stevan Ridley, who underwent surgery yesterday for a serious knee injury he suffered Week 6 in Buffalo. On that play, Ridley tore his ACL and MCL.

According to Jeff Howe of the Boston Globe, the surgery happened in Baton Rouge, Lousiana, where he has spent the past several weeks preparing for the procedure. Ridley was a standout back at nearby LSU.

Rich Hill of Pats Pulpit reports that the surgery went well and "Kid Rid" is in good spirits. Several of his teammates, including fellow former LSU Tiger Brandon LaFell, have taken to Twitter to wish him well.

It will be interesting to see how things play out for Ridley this off-season, as he is set to become a free agent. Given the seriousness of the injury, it is possible he could return to the team on a one year "prove it" deal.

Whether or not Jonas Gray continues to play at a high level, along with how Ridley's recovery progresses are just two of many variables that will shape his football future.
