Jerod Mayo restructures contract
One of the big offseason questions was what would the Patriots do with Jerod Mayo's contract. Sounds like we have the answer.
#Patriots & captain Jerod Mayo agreed on a 1-year deal for $4.5M fully guaranteed. Chance to make $6M, source said. Then 2 option years.

This is big news for the Patriots defense. Having lost Vince Wilfork as the anchor in the middle, and being thin at the line backer position, they couldn't afford to lose Mayo as a salary cap casualty. Mayo is the leader on defense and is the one responsible for getting the defense lined up during the game. If he stays healthy, the linebacker corp will be one of the strong points of the team. With the Jaime Collins and Donta Hightower having progressed with leaps and bounds over the last two years with him out you have three quality starters that can all cover and attack the line of scrimmage.
