Stephen Gostkowski reportedly signs long term contract with Patriots

The New England Patriots applied their exclusive franchise tag to Stephen Gostkowski during the offseason. The team and the player had until 4 pm today to work out a long term deal or else Gostkowski would play the year out under the franchise tag and become an unrestricted free agent again next offseason.

But now that appears that it won't be the case. According to sources, the Patriots and Gostkowski agreed to a 4 year $17.2 million dollar deal before the deadline.

The New England Patriots signed kicker Stephen Gostkowski to a four-year deal worth approximately $17.2 million, a source told ESPN on Wednesday.

The sides had faced a 4 p.m. ET deadline to reach a multiyear contract after the Patriots had designated Gostkowski as its franchise player in early March.

This seems to be a good deal for both sides. Gostkowski gets an average of $4.3 million per year and the Patriots keep one of the best kickers in the league under contract for another 4 years.
