Patriots defensive tackle Alan Branch is facing a possible four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. If it holds up, Branch would be eligible to return on Dec. 24 against the New York Jets assuming the suspension takes effect this week.
Branch has decided to appeal the suspension, which is why the NFL has not formerly announced anything yet.
