John's Well-Educated Guesses: Week 6 - The Recap

Awesome Jelly
Every week I make predictions about how things will play out in the game. I’m a man of integrity and I always answer for my predictions. It’s time to pay the piper.

Prediction: Josh McCown throws for under 300 and does not finish the game: The Patriots defense obviously still feels it has something to prove. I think it’s gonna be a long day for Josh McCown. My prediction is that we snap the streak of 300 yard passers (Everyone who has played the Patriots has done this) and we will get a first look at either Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg. Why? Because that is what you do when you are a terrible team and are down by a lot.

Result: In 1903 Henry Ford's Lawyer went into the Michigan Savings Bank per Henry's request to invest in the Ford Motor Company. The President of the bank advised Ford's lawyer not to invest, saying,"The horse is here to stay, but the automobile is only a novelty - a fad." I'd like to think if we asked the president of the bank for a Josh McCown prediction he would have done a little better than I did. McCLOWN finished 31 of 47 for 354 yards. The Pats have yet to keep an opposing signal caller under the 300 yard plateau and I'm not hopeful we break the streak against the reigning league MVP on Sunday night. After the first three series it looked like McCown might throw for 600 yards in a blow out win so at least we slowed him down a bit. He also threw two picks, including a back breaker at the end of the half that got us back in the game. It should have been three picks but Harmon somehow forgot that his only job is to catch interceptions on deep balls late in games. But as far as seeing one of the other Jets QBs...don't think so. McCown was picking us apart just fine thank you very much. Needless to say, we're still a work in progress when this guy carves you up for over 350 yards in the air.

Prediction: The Patriots are flagged less than 5 times: This is also where the Pats need to fix their penalty problem. Besides injuries, I have that as their biggest issue through 5 weeks. A lot of those have been ticky-tack and at really bad times. Nonetheless, they need to figure it out.

Result:
Missed it by that much...

We finished the game with 6 accepted penalties for 45 yards. I can't remember all of them exactly. I know two were defensive holding, awarding the Jets 2 first downs. I also remember a timeout we had to burn when we were a mess on defense and had 12 men on the field, which would have been a flag. Even more concerning was right after that timeout we broke the huddle and had no idea what the play was. People were waving their arms and pointing so much it looked like we should throw on orange vests and go work for Logan Airport. At the end of the day, I'll take it. I was happy to see the penalties trending in the right direction.

Prediction: The Pats hang 40: Pats win 41-3….LETS GOOOOOOO!

Result: Damn autocorrect! I meant to type "Pats look like shit and hang on in a nail biter, leaving me extremely stressed heading into Falcons week." So basically I crushed this one.
