Year after year, Danny Amendola has “taken one for the team,” receiving pay cuts the last few seasons to remain on the New England Patriots’ roster.

This time, he’s thinking for himself.

The veteran receiver recently opened up to ESPN’s Mike Reiss about why he chose to leave the Patriots, and his answer was pretty simple.

“When free agency broke, I came to the realization that [Belichick] wasn’t going to really come close to any of the other offers I had,” he said. “I had to make a decision for my family and go down to Miami and continue my career there.”

Amendola signed a two-year, $12 million contract with the Miami Dolphins this offseason.

With a commendable six-year stint with the New England Patriots under his belt, two Super Bowl victories and playoff performances Patriots’ fans will never forget, “Dola” has decided to move on and make a decision that was best for he and his family. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
