High praise was earned and well-deserved after James Whites’ performance in the New England Patriots’ preseason victory over the Philadelphia Eagles last night.

Comparing him to past Patriots part-time backs like Kevin Faulk, Shane Vereen and Danny Woodhead, quarterback Tom Brady spoke highly of White’s productivity and talent.

“I don’t think you could ask any more of a teammate than what James provides us and the trust that everyone has in him,” Brady said. “I feel like he never makes a mistake, and it’s pretty amazing to have that.”

Brady and White immediately got into sync early on in the game – which is a good sign, as he could be more relied on in the first part of the season while Julian Edelman serves his four-game suspension.

White was a key piece in the Patriots’ opening scoring drive that ended with a four-yard Chris Hogan TD reception. On his second rushing attempt of the night, White got the ball on third and 2 and bounced outside to not only covert, but to pick up a big 22-yard gain. He had 44 yards on five touches (3 catches) on the first drive.

In one half of game-time action, the veteran running back caught six passes for 61 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown. He also ran for 31 yards.
