The Patriots have released wide receiver Jordan Matthews, after he suffered a hamstring injury that was considered to be significant.

Matthews signed a one-year deal that included just $170,000 in guaranteed money back in April after a one-year stint in Buffalo that saw him play in six games. New England was reportedly deciding between releasing him or putting him on injured reserve, so it's unlikely he will latch on with another team.
The decision to work out Eric Decker earlier this week seems to make a lot more sense now, and with this move in mind, it would be even less surprising to see the Patriots sign him to a contract.
