With wide receiver Julian Edelman out for the next three games, it is important that Tom Brady develop trust and camaraderie with his other receivers.
And that was surely on display on Sunday when the New England Patriots defeated the Houston Texans 27-20 for a Week 1 matchup.
Brady connected with Phillip Dorsett on all seven of the targets that were thrown his way. Dorsett had 66 receiving yards, one touchdown and even tied Rob Gronkowski with team lead in receptions.
“He did a lot of things,” Brady said of Dorsett. “I mean, he caught the ball well, a variety of different routes, had some option routes in there which he did a good job of, catch and run. So, I thought he played great.”
Dorsett played 57 snaps in the game, behind Chris Hogan with 68 – a sure sign that more opportunities are coming his way. Trust and growth are huge in this game, and Brady and Dorsett had it on display on Sunday.
