Welker to test free agent market
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Wes Welker has no intentions of re-signing with the Patriots without first testing the free agent market. Schefter reportedly received this information from a "league source."
This news comes after reports that progress had been made towards getting a long-term deal done with Welker. Many anticipated Brady's restructured contract was an indication Welker would be back. After the franchise tag went unused by the team yesterday, the only options left are to sign Welker or let him go. A report also came out that Welker still has hard feelings towards the team for his diminished role at the beginning of last season.
Unfortunately I believe a team will offer Welker more than what the Patriots are willing. Let's just hope it's not from a conference rival like Denver, Texas, Baltimore, or Pittsburgh. We all know what Wes is capable of when paired with an elite QB.
Has Welker played his last game as a Patriot? That is looking more likely as of this morning.
