Wes Welker's choice is down to Denver and New England, according to Bill Simmons
On the heels of a report that Wes Welker was considering leaving New England after they low balled him on their offer, enters Bill Simmons. The rumor mill continues.
Before you say, "Isn't he a columnist/podcast host/pop culture/grantland creator/nba tv guy?" remember that Simmons does have connections in the sports world. How can he not at this point?
He often references that he has some contacts at the Patriots on his podcast, and after all, this was the guy that accidentally broke the news that Randy Moss was being traded. That turned out to be true. So, now stop rolling your eyes and listen to the sports guy.
So, Welker is facing the age old question of Tom Brady vs Peyton Manning. Which side will he choose? It probably depends a lot on the money factor. Denver gives Welker an equal chance at winning a ring as the Patriots do. Manning proved last year he still has something left in the tank, and a receiver trio of Eric Decker, Demaryius Thomas and Wes Welker would be extremely lethal. Welker could go back to having a deep threat "taking the ball deep and ripping the top of the defense" while he wreaks havoc between the numbers.
The Patriots also play Denver this year, so there would be that whole stomach wrenching storyline.
Let's hope the money is pretty similar and Welker chooses his best friend Tom Brady and the Pats!
