Brendon Ayanbadejo says Ravens released him because of his gay rights activism

When I first heard that Brendon Ayanbadejo was released by the Ravens, I was very happy.

Ayanbadejo of course is the asshole that spent time one evening in January ripping the Patriots apart. Bringing up everything from spygate to just tweeting simply, "18-1."

It was a real immature move that he later apologized for, but he's been on the hate list of Patriots fans ever since.

Not everything Ayanbadejo speaks out about is horseshit though, he along with Chris Kluwe (Vikings punter) are some of the most outspoken supporters of gay marriage and equal rights in the league. Apparently, Ayanbadejo thinks that this is one of the reasons he was cut.

Baltimore Sun:
“My bark is louder than my bite,” Ayanbadejo told Newsday. “I make a lot of noise and garner a lot of attention for various things off the football field. When that starts happening, why do you have that player around?”

Yeah OK. The Ravens have constantly supported Ayanbadejo's views in the past. I think Ayanbadejo is just sore, bitter and making excuses.

You know why he was cut? Because the Ravens are cutting just about everyone. They are cutting costs over in Baltimore, and paying a high salary for a special teams player like Ayanbadejo is not something they're interested in doing anymore.

“We’re surprised that he would indicate this. We have always been respectful of Brendon’s opinions and his right to express those,” said Kevin Byrne, the Ravens' senior vice president for public and community relations. “Our decision regarding his departure from the team has everything to do with football. Nothing else.”

Ayanbadejo may be doing some good things from a political perspective, but he's shown his immaturity and inability to keep his mouth shut before. I think this is just another emotional, juvenile outburst by a player who's sad to be cut.
