Trading down leaves the Pats primed to trade back up

As discouraging as it may seem when your team decides to trade down in the NFL Draft, it truly is a blessing in disguise. At least in this case it is. The Patriots traded their 29th overall pick to the Minnesota Vikings for 4 additional picks. After entering the draft with an all-time low 5 picks, the Patriots now find themselves with 8.

It seems as though the Pats had some players high on their draft board who may have dropped to the second round. With that being the case, they decided to trade down and stockpile on additional selections that Minnesota so generously offered. GM Nick Caserio said that he believes the Pats is in a good position and has some flexibility. With these options, the team can choose to trade up and snag one of their top-rated players:
"If some of those players start to come off and then we want to make a move up, we have maybe a little more flexibility to do that," Caserio said. "I think we're open to anything at this point."

Who would be some of their highly touted prospects? Here is the list that the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe compiled in his article (link above):
Defensive ends: Tank Carradine, Damontre Moore, Margus Hunt
Wide receivers: Keenan Allen, Robert Woods, Justin Hunter
Cornerbacks: Jamar Taylor, Blidi Wreh-Wilson
Safety: Jonathan Cyprien
Tight end: Zach Ertz
Outside linebackers: Arthur Brown, Khaseem Greene
Defensive tackles: Jesse Williams, Kawann Short, Johnathan Jenkins, Johnathan Hankins

The Patriots changed the hand of cards that they were dealt with. What they choose to do now is their decision. If you aren't a big fan of the team's decision to trade down then I suggest that you look closer at the details and the opportunities that the Patriots now how. The ball is in their court, well played gentlemen.
