Brandon Spikes to attend mandatory minicamp

Good news from New England Patriots minicamp, linebacker Brandon Spikes is coming to play some football.

Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes is reporting to Gillette Stadium this morning for the start of this week's mandatory minicamp, according to a source. (Source)

Spikes had been away during voluntary OTAs doing his own training in Florida, which made him the only Patriot who chose not to show up so far this offseason, with others missing through injury. If he hadn't shown up for the mandatory camps, then we could have had an issue, but this is a good sign he's ready to go.

For a player in the last year of his contract and looking for a payday, showing up at team events would seem advisable, however it would appear that he's looking to do his talking on the field. Spikes had been to Florida last year and had a very good year as a run stuffing, hard hitting linebacker. If he can replicate these results, and improve in his pass defense then he should be able to get the contract he feels he deserves.

This being the offseason, Spikes not being at OTAs became a storyline that wasn't Rob Gronkowski to talk about, however now he's reporting to mandatory camps, there shouldn't be any big blowout over Spikes. Now we can concentrate on how he performs at these camps, ahead of probable contract negotiations.
