Patriots 23 - Bills 21 post-game recap

It's finally here! Week 1 of the NFL season, so did you guys enjoy it? It's just now barely halfway over, with still loads of games to go. The most important obviously is the Patriots-Bills game, what went on in today's game.

First Quarter:

Early in the first quarter, the Patriots slowly got underway and how to eventually punt the ball away. Soon afterwards, C.J. Spiller was stripped of the ball and was recovered by the Patriots. Resulting in a laser throw by Tom Brady in the back of the end zone for Edelman. The Patriots would go on and score a field goal from 48 yards out that was shaky, yet went through the uprights. The Bills in the first quarter haven't amount to anything really, three possessions with the longest being just over two minutes long resulting in a fumble, punt and punt. The Patriots had four possessions with a punt, touchdown, field goal, and punt. End of the first quarter score: 10-0 NE.

Second Quarter:

In the second quarter, the Patriots found a small problem that was rearing it's behind in the first. The offensive line wasn't too well when facing the pressure of the Bills and thus brought Brady to the ground a little more often than Patriot fans and Brady want to see. Ridley slipped and fumbled the ball in what has been a unimpressive first half for him, resulting in a fumble recovery touchdown for Buffalo. Danny Amendola went down to an injury and immediately went to the locker room in what appears to be that groin that's been so bothersome in training camp. Buffalo has committed mistakes however, another fumble that has lead to another Edelman touchdown grab. Tight ends haven't been targeted at all the entire game and the first pass attempt to a TE was off Sudfeld's hands and into the Bills, resulting in an interception for Brady. Followed up by a Bills touchdown. Halftime score: 17-14 NE.

Third Quarter:

Coming into the second half, the Bills got the ball. They took the ball down the field and scored a touchdown thanks to an amazing drive that was balanced nicely as the pass was caught by Stevie Johnson. The Patriots then drove down the field and have looked great so far on third down conversions. The drive after would eventually end up on the goal line with a 4th and goal to go, Brady took the snap and fumbled the ball giving it back to Buffalo for a turnover. Amendola returned for the drive and provided a key block for a run and a key grab to extend the drive. The Bills would get the ball around the 15 yard line and after a few good plays, the Bills would eventually need to punt the ball away. Afterwards, Brady and company would get the ball near their goal line and convert next to nothing. End of the third quarter score: 17-21 BUF.

Fourth Quarter:

The Bills couldn't muster anything with all the momentum heading into the fourth quarter to start their drive. The Patriots would again get the ball and drive down the field with some great plays including a nice run by Shane Vereen that set up a 1st and goal. The Patriots however would yet again not convert and after a 3rd and goal sack on Brady, the Patriots are forced to kick a field goal to make it 20-21. The Bills will get the ball back and after a bad return (the return man muffed the ball) the Bills took the ball around 30-40 yards before punting on 4th and 2 with around 8 minutes left to give the Patriots the ball back on their 14 yard line. Amendola and Edelman helped drive them down the field, but they would end up giving the ball away again. But quickly thanks to a three and out, the Patriots had hope. Brady drove them down the field like in years past and completed great passes to Amendola in the clutch. Add on another great run by Vereen, and the Patriots relied on Gostkowski to deliver. That he did, following the go ahead field goal. The Bills couldn't convert with 5 seconds to go. Final score: Patriots 23 Bills 20.

Player of the game:

Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman, and Shane Vereen. All those guys were AMAZING. You can't just pick on. Brady played amazing too, but the grit and determination from those guys was just insane.
