John Fox defends Welker after Belichick calls for foul play

It takes a lot to get a detailed response out of Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. Following the team's loss to the Denver Broncos, Belichick made it a point to bring up a certain topic that was on his mind; Wes Welker's questionable hit that knocked Aqib Talib out of the game. Bill said that he thought the hit was dirty and deliberate. Naturally, Broncos head coach John Fox was quick to defend his prized free-agent pickup:
“I haven’t even seen the tape and I haven’t seen his comment, so I don’t feel that I can comment on that, other than that I know that Wes Welker is a great player, high integrity,” Fox said, via the Denver Post. “I can say that we were not doing anything with intent. That’s the only comment I have.”

Whether the league decides to review this play or not is still up in the air, but as of now all signs point to them letting it slide. Patriots coaches and players will always defend their teammate and call for foul-play, while those on the Broncos' side will say that it was unintentional and unfortunate. Now, let's quickly acknowledge that it is fairly common for teams to call crossing routes in which one receiver will basically set a pick for the other. In this case, they get in the way of the trailing defender so that the other receiver will be more open.

The Welker-Talib incident has a bit more of a grey area. Things get sketchy when you notice that Welker did in fact lower his shoulder and hit Talib while never looking for the pass. It is clear that he was trying to take Talib out of the play. Now, was #83 purposely trying to injure Talib? I would say no because I believe that NFL players do actually look out for each other. If you were to ask Bill Belichick or Andre Carter though, they would say otherwise.
