Baltimore Ravens "in the mix" for Julian Edelman


There was some optimism earlier today that the Patriots would get a deal done to keep Julian Edelman from hitting the free agent market, but the 4 pm deadline has passed and Edelman is free to sign with any team. Worst of all, it looks like he could be jumping ship to a hated rival.


This would be an interesting move for Baltimore. Signing Edelman would give Joe Flacco a tough, reliable weapon in the slot, while bringing additional value on punt returns. It would also be a way to weaken New England, one of Baltimore's hated rivals and chief competitors in the AFC.

The Ravens are also reportedly one of the favorites to land Steve Smith if the long-time Panther receiver is released for cap savings. Not only would, um, outspoken Smith joining the Ravens be a perfect fit personality-wise, but the potential combination of Smith and Edelman would arguably be the greatest collection of Napoleon complexes in NFL history.
