Dustin Keller is visiting the Patriots today

The Patriots have a pretty big need for a tight end.

For years they were famous for the "two tight end offense". With the big Rob Gronkowski and shifty Aaron Hernandez, the Pats created matchup nightmares on the field for opposing defenses.

Things have changed a bit since then.

One of those guys is in jail, charged with first degree murder.

The other, spends most of his time getting surgery these days.

After spending most of last year putting the likes of Michael Hoomanawanui and Matthew Mulligan on the field, the team is probably looking to upgrade. Enter, Dustin Keller.

Keller has given the Patriots plenty of fits in the past as a member of the New York Jets. Most recently, he joined the Miami Dolphins but his season was cut short thanks to a low blow to the knee in preseason. It wasn't all the dissimilar to what happened to Gronkowski last year. A defender looking to avoid a fine with a hit to the head, so they go low.

Keller's injury was much more gruesome though, it tore his ACL, MCL, PCL and dislocated his knee. There were legitimate questions as to whether he'd ever play again or not. So far, he hasn't found a team.

His agent recently came out and said that Keller would be ready to go. He could certainly be had for cheap, and bringing him in to at least see what he can still do is the kind of low risk gamble the Patriots love taking.
