Patriots 2014 schedule released

Regular season schedules for all NFL teams were released last night. The Patriots will open the season on the road in sunny Miami on Sunday September 7th at 1 PM at SunLife Stadium. This is the site of the most recent regular season loss for the team, when they fell to Miami in Week 15 of the 2013 season.

The Patriots will visit the Vikings in Week 2, followed by their home opener against the Raiders on September 21st. All three of these games are 1 PM games on Sunday, and on paper should be very winnable for New England. Their first true test comes in their only Monday night game of the season, when they travel to Kansas City on September 29th to play the Chiefs.

In Week 9 the Brady v. Manning rivalry will be renewed at Foxborough, when the Broncos and Pats will square off at 4:25. The Pats then have a well-timed bye in Week 10, however face a difficult stretch of games after the rest with a trip to Indy, Detroit at home, followed by consecutive road games against Green Bay and San Diego.

The team will then wrap up the season with three division games: home/Miami, away/Jets, home/Bills. The structure of the schedule strengthens the chances that the division title could still be up in the air in the later stages of the season.

It is clear that this schedule should favor a strong start for the Patriots, with games against weaker opponents coming earlier, before getting progressively harder over the course of the season, particularly in the weeks following the bye. The team will also play five games in primetime over the course of the season.
