Mike Reiss: Pats may go after another QB

According to Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston, the Patriots may look to bring in another quarterback, at least for the time being, if backup Ryan Mallett doesn't get healthier. Mallett was a limited participant today, but if he doesn't get healthier, there is a chance Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo will get overextended and then your down to one healthy quarterback on the roster, or none at all if they both go down.

Per Mike Reiss:
Quarterback Ryan Mallett returned after missing the previous two practices, but did not participate much against the Eagles. Mallett’s limited work and time on the sidelines could be a cause for concern, and might lead the Patriots to consider bringing in another quarterback if Mallett continues to not take reps. In a situation like that, it leaves just Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo, and they risk being overworked. Garoppolo got extended work for the third straight day and has shown improvement over the past week.

We'll see how the situation plays out, but the fact that Mallett took even limited reps is a good thing, given that he didn't practice at all in the last 2 days, but he may only be able to take limited reps for the time being, so bringing in an extra QB may be a good thing to ease Brady and Garoppolo's workload.
