Tom Brady admits that retiring with the Patriots is not a priority

Sports fandom is filled with hypocrisy.

At the end of the day, sports fans do just root for laundry. Despite the personalities of the players or an emotional attachment to them, they will shun them as soon as they show any lack of loyalty to the all mighty logo.

Of course, the organizations we root for often show no such loyalty to the players. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has witnessed that firsthand over his 14 years in the league. From Lawyer Milloy to most recently Logan Mankins, the story of the Patriots cutting ties with players just before their usefulness is up is well documented.

Brady seeems pretty cognizant of that, and has been revealing of what a future split may look like. Last night Brady spoke to this.

via NESN.com:
“I don’t think I worry about it,” Brady said Thursday night. “I think I understand that it’s part of the business, and I need to continue to find ways in the offseason to make sure that the team does want me. If there ever comes a time where the team doesn’t, maybe there’s another team that will."

Why is the future Hall of Famer fielding questions about his retirement when his contract runs through 2017?

The Patriots just drafted a young quarterback in the second round, Jimmy Garoppolo, whom looked good in preseason and has fans excited. They say the most popular player on a team can often be the backup QB, and we're seeing the seeds of that mentality being planted in the media and fans surrounding the Patriots now.

So, should Pats fans be offended that Tom Brady would consider signing with another team? Of course not.

Tedy Bruschi endeared himself to Pats fans by playing out his entire career in Foxborough, and making it a stated goal of his to do so. Brady is more like most players, and most people in fact, in that they will not sacrifice their own interests for the sake of the company that employs them, no matter how happy they are at that company.

“I really try to work hard – first of all because I love the game, and I love to work hard at it, but secondly, I want to be in this place for as long as I possibly can. Part of training for the football season — I always have long-term goals in mind, and that’s to be the best player I can be for the team I’m playing for. There’s no other team I’d rather play for than the Patriots.”

Surely, the Patriots have shown they won't be sentimental with players, so why should Tom Brady?
