The Patriots lost Stevan Ridley for the season, and according to Adam Schefter and Pro Football Talk, the Patriots could be in the market for a running back. One name that Schefter threw out there was Tampa Buccaneers running back Doug Martin. According to Schefter, teams are calling about Martin.
While WR Vincent Jackson’s name has been focus of trade speculation, the Buccaneer more likely to be dealt is RB Doug Martin. Teams calling.

According to Pro Football Talk, the Patriots are looking to upgrade at running back. And the rumors have been out there surrounding Doug Martin, and the Bucs could well look to shop their promising young running back in order to rebuild for next year.
Another possibility? Marshawn Lynch. According to the Seattle Times, there is a lot of friction between the Seattle Seahawks and Marshawn Lynch around his contract and workload issues. According to reports, Lynch was/is part of the locker room problems for the Seahawks. All of this could point to Lynch possibly being traded, and I'm sure the Pats will be interested if he is on the block.
The above mentioned guys would both fit in well with the Patriots system if healthy and playing up to their potential. I'm not sure if the Patriots actually pull off a trade before the deadline, but it'll bear watching before the 4 pm deadline.
