Defense holds, Julian Edelman seals the deal against San Diego

On a night when the New England Patriots offense faltered on several of their red zone visits, the defense stepped up and held Phillip Rivers and the Chargers in check.

One of the biggest examples of the defense changing the outcome of the game came in the third quarter.

Brandon Browner was called for a questionable helmet to helmet hit that wiped out a Devin McCourty pick six. Just a few plays later Akeem Ayers intercepted Phillip Rivers to end the drive. While it wasn't as big of play as the pick six if it had stood, with the Patriots trailing 14-13 it ended a chance for the Chargers to extend their lead.

Finally after struggling all night, the offense was able put the final nail in the coffin with a 69 yard touchdown pass to Julian Edelman. Putting the Patriots up 23-14, which would end up being the final score.

With the win, the Patriots hold serve with the Denver Broncos and have the advantage in the race for home field.
