The Patriots are keeping one of their key defensive players around a little longer. This morning, the team signed safety Patrick Chung to a one-year extension through 2018.

Ever since Chung came back to the Pats in 2014, he has excelled in covering tight ends and has been very active in blitz packages. Last season, Chung tied a career high with nine passes defended and one forced fumble. He finished the year with 49 solo tackles, the third highest total of his career.
