Brandon Marshall thinks Matt Patricia doesn't get enough credit

Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall brought something to my attention that I never really thought about before - why does Matt Patricia not get enough credit for what the Patriots do on defense?

I mean, we all know Bill Belichick is a wizard, but Patricia should probably get more credit than he does. Marshall said the following on "Inside The NFL:"

"I'm so sick and tired of everyone talking about Coach Belichick. Yes, he is great," Marshall said, via WEEI.com. "The reason why I'm so sick and tired of everyone talking about Coach Belichick is because they think he does everything and he's the only one in the building that's working. They have a defensive coordinator by the name of Matt Patricia in New England, who's awesome. He has the best third-down defense, and it's not because of statistics. It's because of the creativity."

The obvious answer to this is that Belichick has been the head coach in New England for seemingly a millennium, so he'll always get recognized for the job he does more than his defensive coordinator.

Not only that, but Belichick is regarded as a defensive genius. No one really overlooks Josh McDaniels because of that, so it makes sense that Patricia doesn't get as much press when you look at it in that context.

Even so, the job Patricia has done with this defense this season has been phenomenal. How they lead the NFL with 15.6 points allowed per game when they traded Chandler Jones and Jamie Collins is beyond me.

Patricia has been in the organization since 2004 and has been the defensive coordinator since 2012, making him one of the longest-tenured defensive coordinators in the Belichick era.
