This is what they signed him for.

Brandin Cooks was acquired by the New England Patriots earlier this offseason in a trade with the New Orleans Saints.

So far in training camp, the 23-year-old wide receiver has shown great promise and athletic ability in what he can bring to the team. His performance was highlighted on Monday by a very impressive one-handed catch in the team’s joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Cooks adds a speedy deep-ball threat to the Patriots’ offense – a dimension they haven’t really seen since Randy Moss played.

And after Friday’s practice, Tom Brady and Cooks spoke to reporters about building their rapport and chemistry.

“We’re working hard at it. We’re talking about things,” Brady said. “There are a lot of things that go on to try to improve the learning curve, but he’s just been so much fun to be around. He really adds to a great group of other receivers that I’ve been fortunate to play with for a long time.”

“To play with a guy like that [Brady] is special,” Cooks said. “The way he pays attention to the game, he makes you up your level a little more.”
