Jeremy Hill and Matt Tobin contracts are low-risk, high-reward deals

The Patriots took fliers on Jeremy Hill and Matt Tobin last week, and it's not going to cost them much if they ultimately don't work out.

Hill and Tobin both signed one-year deals. Hill can earn up to $1.5 million and the only guaranteed money is his $150,000 signing bonus. According to Mike Reiss, if he makes the team, he'll earn a base salary of $1 million and then can earn a number of different incentives to bump his earnings up even further.

To quote The Who: "I'd call that a bargain."

Reiss also reports Tobin's deal is only for $815,000.

In a worst-case scenario, the Patriots will have a shade over $2 million in two players that fills areas of need. If that isn't smart business, nothing is.
