Chris Hogan says Tom Brady and Cam Newton's competitive natures are very similar

Former New England Patriots wide receiver Chris Hogan spent three seasons with the team before signing a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers earlier this offseason.

Hogan will now go from working with Tom Brady to Cam Newton as he makes the transition to learning a whole new playbook. The veteran receiver recently spoke to ESPN’s David Newton to discuss the comparisons and differences between the two quarterbacks.

Hogan mentioned that the two are “totally different players.” Brady (41 years old) acts more businesslike, while Newton (30 years old) acts more kidlike. But while their personalities are different, Hogan says that when it’s gametime, they have similar focus and determination.

“That competitive nature, it’s there,” Hogan said. “When it comes to strap on the pads and play football, their focus is on one goal, and that’s winning football games.”

“Cam wants to win. You can tell that right away from talking to him and being around him.”

Hogan will hope to become a major part of the Panthers’ passing game like he was with the Patriots. While in New England, he tallied 107 receptions for 1651 yards and 12 touchdowns over the course of three seasons.
