Patriots fend off the Steelers for first win of the season

(PatriotsWire)

The Patriots marched into Pittsburgh and did just enough to squeak out with a 17-14 win over the Steelers. The loss in Miami left a lot of questions, particularly on offense, some of which were answered today. The offensive line showed significant improvement over the week including rookie Cole Strange playing exceptionally well. There is still a lot to work on offensively, but improvements were shown and as we get further in the rebuilding process, that is all we can ask for.

Mac Jones had a solid day going 21/35 for 252 and a pick and TD. Jakobi Meyers is becoming the clear favorite target for Mac, as he hauled in 9 catches for 95 yards, and second year Nelson Agholor had a highlight reel catch for Macs only touchdown. Stevenson and Harris continue to split the load for a combined 118 yards on the ground with Harris getting a goal line TD in the second half. It's unclear the severity of the injury, but Harris did limp off the field after icing the game with a 3rd down conversion.

The defense continued to impress, as they quietly are shaping up to be one of the better units in the league, recording 3 sacks and an interception on the day. The nice win today will give the Pats a nice boost as they prepare for their first home game of the season against Ravens led by the red hot Lamar Jackson. It's still very difficult to tell what direction this team could head in this year, but a nice win with a lot of complementary football is always a great way to start the new week.
