Seahawks release Red Bryant, Sidney Rice

Well, now it is official.

The Super Bowl champion Seahawks have just let go of two players that are sure to be hot commodities on the market. Defensive Lineman Red Bryant and Wide Receiver Sidney Rice have been released today.

Neither move was surprising. The Red Bryant move was projected earlier this week, with the Hawks looking to save some cap space. By cutting Bryant they save $5,500,000.

This is relevant to the Patriots because they were quite interested in Bryant a few years ago when he was a free agent. Bryant was very nearly a Pat but the Seahawks offered him a lucrative contract to stay. His release sets the stage for the Pats to try again.

Sidney Rice is a player that the Patriots might also be able to take a chance on. He had really one good year in 2009 with Brett Favre and the Vikings, catching 83 passes for 1312 yards and 8 touchdowns. He hasn't had quite the same production since, despite a 7 touchdown year in 2012.

He has a rich injury history, which likely contributed to his release. We talked about his potential fit as a Patriot here.
