Brandon Spikes thinks a fresh start is what he and Patriots need
Linebacker Brandon Spikes is not returning to the Patriots.
Drafted as part of a once seen as phenomenal 2010 Patriots draft class, Spikes has quickly fallen out of favor with management in New England.
He brought a physicality and energy to the defense that, along with his mostly funny tweets, made him a fan favorite to some. Still, he's struggled with injuries and pass coverage throughout his short NFL career thus far. Last year he got off to a bad foot, skipping out on team offseason activities to train on his own. Spikes ended up playing in all 16 games, despite playing through a knee injury towards the end of the year.
Eventually, that knee ended up putting him on IR, though whether or not the move was injury related was hotly debated. Rumors started flying that Spikes was late for a meeting due to snow, and that was the last straw with the Patriots.
Possibly accepting that a return is unlikely, Spikes is looking forward to a new chapter in his NFL career.
