Brandon Spikes says goodbye to New England on twitter 1 minute into free agency, says it "hasn't been real fun"

Linebacker Brandon Spikes has always been a whole lot of fun with New England.

From all his crazy tweets and pranks (one time he said he likes to write "I'm watching you" on the toilet paper at the team facility) to his hard hitting play on the field, it has been enjoyable to watch his career.

We probably won't get that luxury anymore, as Spikes is expected to move on in free agency.

Of course, there was nothing official about that, until Spikes tweeted this just a minute after the start of the new league year.

So I guess while it was certainly "real fun" to watch him play for us, it may not have been "real fun" for him to be in New England. Things started to go south for Spikes when he skipped out on team activities last off-season to train on his own. He was then placed on injured reserve, reportedly prematurely, just before the team's first playoff game.

He did play all 16 games for the first time in his career last season, but never really evolved past being a run first linebacker. With the emergence of both Don'ta Hightower and Jamie Collins alongside All-Pro Jerod Mayo, retaining someone like Spikes was not a priority.

Sayonara.
